Every year, sisters ask us the same question a week before Bhai Dooj: what do I give my brother that he will actually use? The sweets are the sweets. A kurta is the gift that gets worn, photographed and remembered, and it does not need to be expensive.
Here is how to choose one without guessing, even if your brother lives in another city.
Start with the size, not the colour
The most common mistake is buying a beautiful kurta in the wrong size. Do this first. Ask your mother or his wife for a kurta or shirt he already wears and likes, lay it flat and measure four things: the chest (armpit to armpit, then doubled), the length, the shoulder and the sleeve. Every product page lists the same four numbers for the garment, so you can compare them directly. Our guide on how to measure for a kurta at home shows each step. Online sizes run 38 to 44. If your brother is larger, message us, as both our shops carry plus sizes up to 6XL.
Then pick by who he is
For a quiet brother, a safe colour he will wear again. The Navy Blue Solid, ₹1,950, and the Royal Blue Solid, ₹1,850, are the two we suggest first. For a brother who likes colour, the Golden Marigold Self-Stripe, ₹1,900, is bright but easy. For a brother who dresses sharply, the Sky Blue Chikankari-Style, ₹3,499, looks like a gift that took thought.
If you want to spend more
For a brother with a wedding coming up, or one who wants a special piece, the Mustard Gold Scroll-Panel and the Charcoal Grey Double-Scroll, both ₹3,999, come with a churidar and carry fine work. Charcoal is a good answer for a brother who says he does not like bright colours.
A set, not a single piece
Every kurta here comes with a pajama as a set, so there is nothing else to buy. If he already owns pajamas, the Kurta only option costs ₹200 less.
Sending it to another city
Delivery in Delhi is free, and free across India above ₹1,999. Orders are packed at our Rajouri Garden shop. If your brother is in the NCR, we can arrange same-day delivery on request. Message us on WhatsApp with the pin code and we will confirm the date before you order. Cash on delivery is available, which helps if you are sending it to his home.
If it does not fit
You have seven days to exchange for another size. Exchanges are done at either of our Delhi shops with the order number, and we will help over WhatsApp if the brother lives elsewhere. Tell us the date of the festival when you order, so we can check the measurements with you first.
Make it a day, not a parcel
If you can, give it in person, on the day, before the tilak. Many families make it part of the evening: tilak, sweets, a gift, a photograph. Our guide to the five days of Diwali will help him plan when to wear it. See also our gift for him collection.
