Durga Puja in Delhi: What to Wear from Shashthi to Dashami

Father and son pandal hopping at Durga Puja in Delhi

Delhi has its own Durga Puja, not just Kolkata's. CR Park alone runs some of the biggest pandals outside Bengal, and Bengali families across the city follow the same tradition wherever they are: notun jama, new clothes, for every day of the Puja. It is as central here as new clothes are at Diwali for everyone else.

Shashthi to Dashami, 2026 dates

16 Oct, Maha Shashthi: Bodhon, the goddess is welcomed. Low-key, family-only start.
17 Oct, Maha Saptami: Pandal hopping properly begins.
18 Oct, Maha Ashtami: The big one. Anjali in the morning, often the day families dress their best.
19 Oct, Maha Navami: More pandal hopping, the last full day before the goodbyes start.
20 Oct, Vijaya Dashami: Visarjan, the idol's immersion. A quieter, more traditional mood than the days before.

What to actually wear

We sell kurta pajama, not dhoti, so this is about picking from that honestly rather than pretending to cover everything.

For Ashtami anjali and the more formal mornings, an Ecru Khadi-Stripe Kurta, ₹1,700, keeps things simple and correct without needing a dhoti. For the evening pandal-hopping energy of Saptami and Navami, a Deep Red Self-Stripe Kurta, ₹1,700, reads festive without trying too hard. For Dashami, many families keep it deliberately plain and a little subdued; the same ecru works, or Royal Blue Solid, ₹1,650, if the family's own custom is less strict about it.

Who this is for

Bengali families in Delhi NCR dressing for the Puja, and anyone invited along for pandal hopping who wants to show up dressed right rather than guessing. If your family already has its own colour customs for each day, follow those first, this is a starting point for households without a fixed one.

Questions we hear at the counter

Do you stock dhoti-kurta sets?

Not currently, only kurta pajama. If a dhoti is non-negotiable for your family's Ashtami, we would rather say so now than have you find out at checkout.

Is this the same as your Navratri collection?

Yes, Durga Puja falls inside the same Navratri window and we stock them together. See our day-by-day Navratri colour guide if you want the wider nine-colour picture too.

Can I get same-day delivery if Puja has already started?

Same-day delivery across Delhi NCR is available on special request. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly if we can make it happen.
