Every year the question at our counter is the same: "Is there anything new?" Here are the five designs customers are actually asking for this Diwali, and where each one earns its place.
1. The pastel floral print, for the puja
A pale sage green with a fine botanical line print and a touch of embroidery at the placket. It reads festive without shouting, which is exactly right for the morning puja and the family photographs that follow. Worn with a plain white pajama.

2. The solid blush pink, for the card party
Diwali evenings now run late, into card parties and house parties that have nothing to do with the puja. A solid blush pink kurta, sleeves rolled once, sits right in warm lamplight and still looks deliberate over a pair of dark jeans afterwards.
3. The royal blue with a chest pocket, for the office party
Most offices run a Diwali dress-up day now, and a true royal blue with a mandarin collar and a chest pocket for your phone is the easiest answer: festive enough for the desk, sharp enough for photos, plain enough to wear again at a sangeet under a jacket.
4. The deep navy, for one kurta that does three evenings
If you are buying one kurta this Diwali, make it navy. Tortoiseshell buttons, a mandarin collar, nothing to date it. White pajama for the puja, jeans for the party, a Nehru jacket on top for the wedding functions that follow Diwali by a few weeks.
5. The chikankari-style set, for the big evening
For the one night that calls for more: tonal thread embroidery in a diamond lattice, worked across a kurta and pajama set rather than a plain piece. This is the design our counter sells out of first every wedding season, and it is coming online this month. Ask us on WhatsApp to be the first to know when it is live.
